How often should you pump?
The county-standard recommendation is every 3 to 5 years for a typical single-family home. A few things push you toward the shorter end:
- Full house, four or more people
- Vacation rental with heavy turnover
- Garbage disposal use (adds solids fast)
- Older or undersized tank (common in Sonora, Columbia, Standard)
Signs you're overdue
- Slow drains across the whole house — not just one sink
- Gurgling toilets when other fixtures run
- Sewage odors indoors, or over the tank/drainfield outdoors
- Wet spots or unusually green grass over the leach lines
- Backups into the lowest fixture in the house — usually a basement or ground-floor shower
What it costs
